Excitement reached fever pitch across Imota Local Council Development Area as residents trooped out in large numbers on Friday, July 31, 2026, to witness the thrilling semi-final stage of the BSA/BOJ Under-21 Inter-Ward Football Tournament, with the remaining teams battling fiercely for places in the grand finale.
The day’s fixtures featured exciting clashes between Atere Stars FC and Oriokuta Stars FC, as well as Ward C Stars FC and Impeccable FC. Both matches lived up to expectations, delivering high-intensity football and keeping fans on the edge of their seats throughout regulation time.
At the end of the encounters, Atere Stars FC settled for a 1-1 draw with Oriokuta Stars FC before Oriokuta Stars FC emerged victorious 4-3 in the ensuing penalty shootout. In the second semi-final, Ward C Stars FC played out a thrilling 2-2 draw with Impeccable FC before securing a 4-3 victory on penalties to book their place in the final. Sunday’s fixtures, scheduled for August 2, 2026, will see Oriokuta Stars FC face Ward C Stars FC in the championship match, while Impeccable FC and Atere Stars FC will battle for third place.
The competition, organised as part of the week-long activities marking the first anniversary of the administration of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele, has transformed the community into a hub of sporting entertainment.
The semi-final encounters, played before enthusiastic spectators, produced moments of breathtaking football, with young talents displaying remarkable skill, determination and sportsmanship. The electrifying atmosphere at the Imota Mini Stadium reflected the growing popularity of the tournament, as supporters from various wards passionately rallied behind their teams.
The Supervisor for Youth and Sports, Hon. Akinyemi Olusoga Victor, reiterated the Benson-led administration’s unwavering commitment to youth development through sports and other empowerment initiatives. He stated that the tournament aligns with the BSA vision of providing constructive engagement for young people while promoting peace, friendship and social cohesion within the council area.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser on Youth and Sports, Hon. Shofowora Olumide Adeleke, appreciated residents for their overwhelming support and orderly conduct throughout the tournament. He assured them that the Imota LCDA under the administration of Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele would continue to invest in programmes capable of unlocking the immense potential of young people, stressing that sports remain a powerful tool for nurturing discipline, teamwork and leadership among the younger generation.
Speaking after the matches, several football enthusiasts noted that the standard of play had exceeded expectations, with many participants demonstrating the quality, discipline and talent required to excel at higher levels of the game. They expressed optimism that the competition would serve as a platform for discovering and developing future football stars from Imota.
Residents described the championship as one of the most engaging grassroots sporting events ever organised in the council, praising the BSA/BOJ administration for creating a platform that not only entertains but also empowers young people through sports.
